In Defense of Israel Soccer Players

The athletes aren’t the ones committing crimes in Gaza. They are playing the beautiful game. They are competing in the international sport between peaceable nations. It’s a shame that they should miss out on the World Cup because the Netanyahu government is propagating an “unfolding genocide” in Gaza, in the words of the United Nations human rights council. The UN commission investigated and concluded, “the Israeli authorities and Israeli security forces have the genocidal intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip”  It’s a shame the players lose the chance to shine on the pitch. The bigger shame is the continuation of the “unfolding genocide”. But what else can FIFA do? Russia has been eliminated due to the invasion of Ukraine. How can the killing of 60,000 Palestinians, the genocidal intent of the Netanyahu government, and the famine in Gaza be ignored? FIFA will do the world a favor by noticing and drawing a line, however small, to say, Please, No More!
