Constitution
Why do we have a Constitution? Because we refuse to submit to a king? That is a partial answer at best, because there are such things as constitutional monarchies which have kings and proscribe the authority of the monarch to the power of a representative government. Our Constitution does something even more important than deny the right of any king (or queen) to rule over us. The Constitution protects us from: the perverted ambition of another class of men, who will either hope to aggrandize themselves by the confusions of their country, or will flatter themselves with fairer prospects of elevation… These are the words of Alexander Hamilton in Federalist Papers, No. 1. (October 1787) The abiding purpose of this great experiment is to give people the freedom to govern themselves while stopping anyone from exerting power, who would aggrandize themselves and flatter themselves, by sowing division among the people and by confusing themselves with their country. To say, “NO KINGS!” is to say we believe in the purpose of the Constitution of the United States of America.

Sycophant: a good word to know in today’s political climate. For a definitive example: the “Republican Sycophant Caucus” on Capitol Hill. As Gerard Baker of the WSJ asks, “When is somebody going to say something?”
